Village Voter
This blog sets out to explore some other options relating to governmental systems, and the issues of the current party system
Hey ! Much better way of electing politicians ! The outcome of the current election is essentially going to be a random selection. Why not make something like the senate a purely random selection. Put EVERYONEs name in a 'barrel' and draw out enough names to form a senate, like the couple of hundred we have now. ie the same process as is used to call people up for jury duty. Then if your name comes up, its your duty to go and spend the 2 years or whatever in Parliament overseeing the lower house bills, and deciding whether or not they are fit to pass. That way there is no incentive to get yourself re-elected, and all the power games that causes. The best you can do is to do the job properly, and keep the obviously bad bills from passing, while letting through the ones which are good. Is that not better than what we do now ?
